Cyclo (His-Pro), or cHP is a metabolite of TRH, and has anorexigenic properties. Pharmacol Biochem Behav. 1991 Feb;38(2):359-64 cHP seems to have a gut and brain distribution, with higher levels of cHP in the lateral hypothalamus of obese Zucker rats. Brain Res. 1995 Nov 13;699(1):149-53. The raised cHP levels in the hypothalamic nuclei of these obese rats can be down-regulated by DHEA administration.
Although analogs of cyclo-his-pro have been developed, none of them seem superior to cyclo-his-pro itself in appetite suppression. Interestingly, one paradoxically stimulated appetite. Pharmacol Biochem Behav. 1991 Feb;38(2):359-64 The cyclo-diketopiperazine molecule, cyclo-Asp-Pro which is derived from Enterostatin Peptides. 1994;15(5):849-54. also has suppressive effects on food intake on peripheral or central administration, with greater potency and specificity for fat intake reduction than cyclo-his-pro
