Welcome!
Obesity is being revolutionised by our greater understanding of the disease. Knowledge in this field is still limited to a few culprit factors that might be involved in the perpetuation of the disease, while less is known about the precise role of the individual factors in the causation or initiation of obesity. Discovery of up to 20 different peptides including Ghrelin, Leptin and GLP-1 have given obesity research a boost, opening up areas for further studies. This site aims to give the reader a general overview of obesity and continued update of the different patho-physiological mechanisms elucidated to date, with a detailed discussion of the role of gut hormones in obesity.
So why is such a site needed when there is obesity related material being churned out in every other medical journal? Firstly, no paper-based review article can stand the test of time considering that knowledge in this field is fast evolving. Secondly, hardcore lab and animal data is difficult to be made sense of by the common clinician who has no free time to analyze these studies. Thirdly, access to varied data at one source is always helpful to both researchers and non-researchers alike. Finally, not everyone needs to know in-depth data of every single molecule known to man, but would benefit more from an overview of the currently known and unknowns in this field.

While I recognise that the vast majority may be searching online for information relating to diabetes, prediabetes and clinical obesity, the world wide web abounds with pages on these issues and I do not feel that yet another page is time well spent on my part. I have hence restricted content relating to these clinical issues to my blog, with the occasional webpage devoted to clinical topics where critical information is to be conveyed without the informality, humour and subtle sarcasm of a blog. Liberal referencing has been provided throughout the site to maintain authenticity.
Here is to hoping that you will enjoy my blog and contribute with your comments. Feedback would be a welcome gesture and would help further the scope of this site. |
